Oil spill clean-up at Spoornet in Ermelo

Procon was contracted to contain this oil spill and complete the clean-up operation. The municipal sewerage system is under designed and after heavy rainfall, oil that was supposed to be pumped to the municipal sewerage plant over spilled into the surrounding environment.

Procon recovered all visible oil from the stream and treated the residual oil in the soil by using augmented bioremediation. The project was completed within 2 weeks and thereafter an Ultraspin system was installed in place of the inadequate rope skimmer system. This oily water treatment system also ensures that the same problem will not happen again at this plant.
